Method

Why deionised water?

Deionised water has had its minerals stripped out, so it dries without leaving anything behind: no spots, no film, no residue cutting the light getting through. Ordinary tap water dries and leaves the exact mineral deposits you were trying to remove.

It also means no detergents. Detergent residue attracts dust, so a panel cleaned with soap is often dirtier a month later than one that was never touched.

And why not a pressure washer

Panels are glass over a sealed electrical assembly. High pressure can force water past the seals and micro-crack the surface, and both tend to show up as lower output long after whoever cleaned them has gone. We use low pressure and soft brushes, always.

Dust, pollen, bird mess and salt in the bayside suburbs all build a film that cuts output. Most systems benefit from a clean about once a year, more if you are under trees or near the coast.

What dirt costs you

You cannot see your panels from the ground

A film of dust, pollen and bird mess is output you have paid for and are not getting.

Common questions

Solar cleaning questions

Still unsure? Send a photo or call 0490 791 059.

How much output will I get back?

It depends entirely on how dirty they are, and anyone quoting a firm percentage before looking is guessing. Heavily soiled panels lose a meaningful amount; panels cleaned last year will not gain much. Ask us to look before you pay for a clean you do not need.

Do I need to switch the system off?

We will talk you through it when we book. It varies by inverter and is not something to guess at.

Will it void my warranty?

Deionised water and soft brushing is the method most manufacturers specify. High pressure and detergents are what cause warranty problems.

How often should panels be cleaned?

Once a year suits most Brisbane systems. More often if you are under trees, near the bay or somewhere dusty. If they were done last year and are not visibly filthy, they probably do not need it yet.

Tell us roughly how many panels and what the roof is like. Not sure they need doing? Ask, and you will get an honest answer.

We are usually on a roof or behind a machine during the day. If the phone rings out, leave a message or send a text and you will get a call back the same day.
